New JRC C-MOS IC Databook

New JRC C-MOS IC Databook

7 July 2025 · By Charlotte Hughes

As part of Force Technologies’ expanding archive of historic databooks, today we’re highlighting a key publication from the Japanese semiconductor industry the New JRC Semiconductor Databook: C-MOS IC, published by New Japan Radio Co., Ltd. (JRC).

Who was JRC (New Japan Radio Co., Ltd.)?

JRC, originally founded in 1959, is a Japanese electronics manufacturer well known for its analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits. It became globally recognized for its high-quality operational amplifiers, audio ICs, and CMOS logic devices. JRC operated with a U.S. subsidiary under NJR Corporation, based in California which is also noted on the front cover of this databook.

This publication likely dates to the late 1980s or early 1990s, during the peak era of discrete C-MOS logic IC production. At that time, companies like JRC were vying for market space alongside Texas Instruments, Fairchild, and RCA in offering standardized logic families.

What’s Inside?

  • The C-MOS IC Databook compiles datasheets for a range of CMOS logic ICs offered by JRC. These likely include:
  • 4000 Series Logic ICs
  • Flip-Flops, Counters, Multiplexers, Shift Registers
  • Voltage and temperature specifications
  • Timing characteristics and logic diagrams
  • Packaging options (typically DIP and SOIC)

This databook served engineers, designers, and purchasing departments as a technical reference during component selection and system design in the pre-internet era when datasheets weren’t just a click away.

Why It Matters

For Force Technologies, books like this reflect a critical era in electronics design and reinforce our commitment to legacy component sourcing. JRC components, many of which are now obsolete or discontinued, are still in demand across defence, aerospace, and industrial systems that rely on legacy infrastructure.

  1. Our in-house Databook library supports:
  2. Cross-referencing hard-to-find part numbers
  3. Pin-for-pin replacement identification
  4. Legacy system support and testing

Did You Know?

JRC was behind the famous NJM4558 operational amplifier, a staple in audio engineering and guitar pedal design showing their broad relevance across both logic and analog device markets.

Part of the Force Technologies Databook Collection
